  • This study used the CARS model developed by the researcher John Swales (1990) to answer the question about rhetoric patterns and linguistic characteristics of the introduction section in research articles in the maritime feld. The data consists of 15 article introductions written in English by Vietnamese authors taken from VMU Maritime Technology Journal of Vietnam. The results of the study show that more than 60% of the introduction sections included all three moves, Move 1 is the most frequently used, while Move 3 is the least.
