  • The roots of Aconitum Carmichaeli Debx. is recognized as a medicinal plant by its anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. Our phytochemical investigation of the roots led to the isolation of three alkaloids including delcosine (1), fuziline (2), and karacoline (3). Their structures were identified on the basis of NMR, MS, IR spectroscopic analysis and comparison with the published NMR data. Compound 1 was isolated for the first time from this plant

  • The etiology and pathophysiology of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which is a multifactorial disorder, remain poorly understood. Curcuma longa extract has been demonstrated to exhibit anti-inflammatory activity in the literature. Here, we examined the effect of C. longa extract on dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis over a period of 7 days. The extract (150 mg/kg/b.w.) was mixed with the diet of the mice. C. longa significantly reduced the Disease Activity Index and myeloperoxidase activity. The extract also suppressed the levels of pro-inflammatory IL-1β, IL-6, IL-17, INFγ, TNF-α and increased the level of IL-10. Additionally, the protein expression levels of COX-2 and iN...

  • A PEGylated liposomal formulation of doxoburicin has been developed and evaluated with the purpose of reducing toxicity and improving the tumor-targeting efficacy of doxorubicin.PEGylated liposomal doxorubicin was prepared by the lipid film hydration technique using hydrogenated soybean phosphatidylcholine (HSPC) combined with cholesterol and DSPE-PEG . Biological activity and toxicity were tested on A549 and HT 29 cancer cell lines by the MTT method. As the result, the obtained PEGylated liposomal doxorubicin using the lipid film hydration method had an entrapment efficiency of the drug more than 95%. The formulated liposomes were found to be relatively uniform in size (167.8± 3.6 nm...

  • Doxorubicin hydrochloride is an antitumor antibiotic derived from anthracyclines. It has had limited use because of its dose-related cardiotoxicity and myelosuppression. Liposomes have been used as a vehicle for administration of pharmaceutical drugs because of their ability to improve the delivery of drugs to tumors, increase therapeutic efficacy, and decrease toxicity to normal cells. The aim of this study is to prepare a new liposomal dxorubicin on a large -scale and evaluate its antitumor activity in vivo. Liposomes were formed using the hydration of a thin lipid film method, and doxorubicin was loaded through a pH gradient technique. Based on TEM images, large lamell...

  • Amphotericin B is a polyene antifungal drug used intravenously for systemic fungal infections. It has severe and potentially lethal side effects, therefore, it has been limited use in clinical. Liposomes are widely used as vehicles to target organ in pharmaceutical technology due to their ability to improve the delivery of drugs, increasing therapeutic efficacy and decreasing toxicity. The aim of this study is to prepare a liposomal amphotericin B by hydration of a thin lipid film and ethanol-injection methods and evaluate its antifungal activity in vivo. Prepared liposomal amphotericin B by both methods has particle size smaller than 150 nm, quite homogeneous and the entrapmen...

  • Objective: To investigated the protective potential of ethanol extracts of Scutellaria baicalensis (S. baicalensis) against lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced liver injury. Methods:Dried roots of S. baicalensiswere extracted with ethanol and concentrated to yield a dry residue. Mice were administered 200 mg/kg of the ethanol extracts orally once daily for one week. Animals were subsequently administered a single dose of LPS(5 mg/kg of body weight, intraperitoneal injection). Both protein and mRNAlevels of cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor alpha, interleukin-1β, and interleukin-6 in liver tissues were evaluated by ELISA assay and quantitative PCR. Cyclooxygenase-2, ind...

  • Two flavonol glycosides: 5,7,3 ' -trimethoxyquercetin -3-O-β-D-fructofuranoside (1), 7,4′-O-dimethylluteolin 5-O-[α-L-arabinofuranosyl-(1→6)-β-D-glucopyranoside] (2) and one fatty acid ester (Z)-3-hydroxypentan-2-yl-10-aminooctacos-9-enoate (3) were isolated from the leaves of Aconitum carmichaeli Debx growing in Ha Giang province, Vietnam. Their structures were elucidatedby spectroscopic methods, including IR, MS and NMR. This is first time these compounds were isolated from leaves of A. carmichaeli Debx.

  • The paper focuses on computational aspects of portfolio optimization (PO) problems. The objectives of such problems may include: expectedreturn, standard deviation and variation coefficient of the portfolioreturn rate. PO problems can be formulated as mathematical programming problems in crisp, stochastic or fuzzy environments. To compute optimal solutions of such single- and multi-objective programming problems, the paper proposes the use of a computational optimization method such as RST2ANU method, which can be applied for nonconvex programming problems. Especially, an updated version of the interactive fuzzy utility method, named UIFUM, is proposed to deal with portfolio mul...

  • We investigate the effects of Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) supplementation on methamphetamine (METH)-induced neurotoxicity in the mouse brain. We used 30 mice divided into three groups containing 10 animals each: a control group, a brain injury group treated with METH and a group treated with METH+CoQ10. Various assays, such as protein thiol group, glutathione total, lipid peroxidation, catalase, superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase, were used to assess the damage caused by METH and the protective effects of CoQ10 on brain tissues. The METH-induced brain injury significantly increased lipid peroxidation and decreased the level of the thiol group, the glutathione total and th...
