  • The higher education system in Vietnam has expanded rapidly during the past two decades. Yet, the equity in terms of access to higher education in the country is understudied. This paper is an attempt to look at Vietnam’s current higher education system in terms of access and equity. Using logistic regression model and data from the Vietnam Household Living Standard Survey 2016, the paper also examines the factors explaining the enrolment in higher education in Vietnam. It shows that there has been a wide gap in the access between the rich and the poor, and between the Kinh/Hoa majority and the ethnic minority group in Vietnam.   • Efficency of rice farming households in Vietnam

  • The purpose of this paper is to estimate technical efficiency obtained from both data envelopment analysis and stochastic frontier approaches using household survey data for rice farming households in Vietnam. A bootstrap method is used to provide statistical precision of the DEA estimator. Technical efficiency is modeled as a function of household and production factors.

By considering whether or not prostitution is legal, there are many loopholes in the management of this sensitive activity being explored.

  • The relationship between small and medium-sized enterprises’ characteristics and their innovative capacity: evidences from firms in Quang Ninh province

  • This research aims at exploring the relationship between some characteristics of SMEs located in Quang Ninh province and their innovative capacity based on the IVC4 framework. Specifically, we assess firms’ innovative capacity through the process of innovation rather than the output of the activity. The Innovation Value Chain framework provides the conceptual frameworks to assess firms’ innovative capacity. The findings can help policy makers better understand the determinants of SMEs’ innovative capacity, so that they can find appropriate solutions to increase the effectiveness of their supporting policies.

  • This study examines the profile and determinants of poverty in the two largest cities in Vietnam – Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh. Data used in this study are from the 2009 Urban Poverty Survey. Using the poverty line of 12,000 thousand VND, year, the poverty incidence is estimated at 17.4 percent for Hanoi and 12.5 percent for Ho Chi Minh city.
