language competence, the relationship between language 1 (mother tongue) and
language 2 (foreign language) as well as elements of language competence in
relation to culture. The paper stresses the fact that language competence involves
both written and spoken language. In a broad sense, this competence would
translate into speaking, listening, reading, writing and translating skills. Also, it
is important to keep in mind that the acquisition of speaking and writing in a
target language is conditional upon a host of factors apart from socio-cultural
knowledge, hence different teaching & learning methods are called for.

Vietnamese in terms of preference organization concerning the speech act of
disagreeing. Disagreements, structurally marked and thus dispreferred because of
their structural complexity and counter-productive effects, are often softened or
hedged. However, disagreements to self-denigrations, which are structurally unmarked
and thus preferred, are prone to be forthrightly proffered. The two kinds of
disagreements seem to work in absolutely opposing directions so th at they can
minimize the negative effects and maximize the positive impacts of disagreement

'Subjoctivity-Objectivity',, the article points to the fact that modality, seen from any
angle, is essentially subjective. It reveals the opinion and attitude of the speaker

reviews different approaches to modes and modalities by different scholars and works
out the arrangement of modes in natural languages. In addition, he analyses main

Rhetorical figures may be created basing on the vocabularies and grammatical structures which are used in particular ways. Because of that discourse with rhetorical figures can’t be translated with summarising or explaining. The translating of rhetorical figures follows special ways of translating.
The rate of fidelity to the original discourse may depend on the rhetorical figures’ effects saved.
