  • Fe(II)-oxydizing NO3--reducing bacteria in sediment samples collected from freshwater aquifer, flooded paddy soil and estuarine area were quantified and analysed on species composition. The MPN results showed that among the three studied environments, flooded paddy soil had the highest number of these bacteria (9.3 • 103.g-1), five and two times higher than that of freshwater aquifer and estuarine sediment, respectively. Based on distinguish colony characteristics, 12 strains of Fe(II)-oxidizing, NO3-- reducing bacteria were isolated from MPN series and were set into five genetically different groups as proposed by ARDRA analyses with two restricition enzymes HaeIII and MspI, showing relatively high diversity of this bacterial group in the studied environments. Analysing species com...

  • Bacterial community in dioxin contaminated soil and mud samples from Danang airport was enumerated and studied for their potential degradation capability against three-ring compound carbazol. The cell number was determined on nutrient rich medium and on mineral medium supplemented with carbazol. It has been showed that number of cells presented in mud samples was significantly higher than in soil samples, in the range of 1 magnitude order. About 50% of the total cell number in each sample grown on the medium with carbazol. Analyzing 12 representative strains selectively isolated on the carbazol containing medium by using the ARDRA method with two endonucleases HaeIII and MspI showed that bacterial community at the studied areas was highly diversified. However non from these isolates...
