  • Melanocortin-4 receptor (MC4R) plays roles in regulating food intake and energy balance. A number of studies have revealed that variant rs17782313 is significantly associated with obesity in different populations. However, their contribution to obesity in the Vietnamese populations have not been described. This study was aimed at evaluating the association of rs17782313 with anthropometric indices and obesity in the Vietnamese childrens. A case-control study was conducted on 559 children aged 6-11 years (278 obese cases and 281 normal controls). The nutrition status of the children was classified using both criteria of the International Obesity Task Force 2000 and the World Health Org...

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of metal accumulation on the variation of glutathione S-transferase (GST) activities in some fishes (Cyprinus carpio L, Hypophthalmichthys molitrix, and Oreochromis niloticus) in Nhue-Day river basin. Samples for analysis were taken four times from September 2012 to July 2013. The heavy metals were deposited mostly in kidney and liver of all studied fishes by the following order: Zn > Cu > Pb > Cd. Their accumulated patterns in tissues are ranked as: liver >>1 kidney > gill for Cu; accumulation patterns are similar for Zn, Pb and Cd, accumulated more in kidneys than in liver and gills but at the different extents: kidney > liver ≥ g...

  • The Trp64Arg (rs4994) polymorphism in codon 64 of ADRB3 (beta3-adrenergic receptor) gene is involved in the regulation of energy metabolism. This study optimizes the genotyping method of ADRB3 rs4994 polymorphism and determines the allele and genotype frequencies of this polymorphism in 3-5 years old children in Hanoi. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 100 three-to-five-year-old Hanoi children, using DNA extraction method from cheek mucosa cells. The genotyping of this polymorphism was performed by polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method. The study optimized the method of genotyping of ADRB3 rs4994 polymorphism with Mval enzyme. ...
