  • Zn/Cr layered zinc hydroxide materials with different molar ratios of Cr/Zn have been synthesized through the coprecipitation method at pH of 9.0e9.5. At high Cr/Zn molar ratios of 0.5/1e1/3, the ma-terials possess some layered structure with carbonate anions between the interlayer galleries. The cat-alysts present uniform particle sizes and quite high surface area. An isomorphous substitution of Zn 2þ by Cr 3þ in the brucite-like sheets makes the layered Cr-doped zinc hydroxides acting as catalysts for efficient oxidation of rhodamine B with H2O2solution.   • Sepiolite has been treated with ethanol under isothermal conditions and characterized by XRD, SEM, FT-IR, and BET measurements. The materials showed a typical lamellar structure and fibrous morphology. After treatment of sepiolite, the surface area of the solid is significantly improved while the material structure still remains. Both fresh and treated sepiolites were used as adsorbents for the adsorption of rhodamine B in water. In isothermal conditions, both samples exhibit a good ability to adsorb rhodamine B in water.   • A series of MeOx/sepiolite (Me ¼Cu, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni) catalysts was prepared through the deposition eprecipitation and characterized by means of XRD, EDS, SEM, BET, and H2-TPR. The structural charac-terization showed a fine distribution of MeOx metal oxides on magnesium silicate nanobars. The sepiolite-loaded-metal oxide catalysts have been screened for the partial oxidation of benzyl alcohol and shown a good conversion and a very high selectivity to benzaldehyde at mild conditions.   • A series of ground La(Co,Cu)O3 perovskite-type mixed oxides prepared by reactive grinding has been characterized by X-Ray diffraction (XRD), BET, H2-TPR, O2-TPD, and CO disproportionation. All ground samples show a rather high specific surface area and nanometric particles. The solids were preteated under H2 atmosphere to provide a finely dispersed Co-Cu phase which is active for the hydrogenation of CO. The reduced perovskite precursors produced a mixture of higher alcohols and hydrocarbons from syngas following an ASF distribution.
