  • HKT gene family encodes Na+ and/or K+ transporter located on cellular membrane in plants. HKT transporter family has been proven to play a crucial role in maintaining low Na+/K+ ratio to help plant survive during saline condition. OsHKT1;2 gene is a member of rice HKT gene family.   • G11778A mutation in the ND4 gene of human mitochondrial genome accounts for 50-70% of LHON syndrome. In this study, we set up real-time PCR using fluorescent Taqman probe with locked nucleic acid nucleotide (LNA) for detection and quantitation of mitochondrial genome mutation G11778A. The real-time PCR showed a linear correlation between logarithm of target gene copy number and threshold value (Ct) with a high regression value R2 = 0.999. By using PCR-RFLP in combination of real-time PCR, we found a 7.5 month girl patient carrying G11778A mutation. The mutation was present at 2.71±0.12% of heteroplasmy. whereas her parents did not carry this mutation. This is the first case with the ...

  • Structural, optical and magnetic properties of BiFeO3 and Bi0.9Nd0.1Fe0.95TM0.05O3 (TM = Ni, Co) polycrystallines prepared by sol–gel method have been investigated. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns reveal that all samples crystalize in rhombohedrally distorted perovskite structure belonging to R3C space group. The analysis results of both XRD and Raman scattering show the increase of lattice distortion with the co-replacing of Nd and TM ions into A and B sites respectively. All samples exhibit a weak ferromagnetic behavior at room temperature with the enhancement of the magnetization in Nd and TM co-doped samples.

  • The crystallinity, surface morphology, optical property and photocatalytic performance of ZrTiO4 nanostructured powders synthesized by sol-gel method at various calcining temperatures were investigated by XRD, FE-SEM, and absorption measurements, respectively. XRD analysis showed that ZrTiO4 began crystallizing at about 600 °C. The crystallinity increased with increasing calcining temperature. According to FE-SEM images, amorphous particles of nearly 10 nm in size with relatively sphere morphology were formed after a heat treatment of the ZrTiO4 gel at 450 °C for 3 hours.   • The crystal structure and optical as well as electromagnetic properties of multiferroic (x)CoFe2O4-(1-x)BiFeO3 (x=0.0÷0.5) composites prepared by solid state reaction method have been systematically investigated. The XRD analysis indicated that both spinel CoFe2O4 (CFO) and perovskite BiFeO3 (BFO) phase simultaneously exist in the sintered composite. Absorption spectra showed the optical band gap of these composites decreases slightly with the increase of CFO concentration.   • In this article, we report on the preparation of CdSe quantum dots (QDs) by sol-gel method and their optical properties. The average size of QDs is also estimated by using various ways, such as the Scherer’s formula. The Effros-Brus-Kayanum a's theoretical expression, TEM etc. The TEM images of samples show that the mean sizes of QDs are 4 nm. The mean sizes of QDs are smaller than that of other methods and arranging from 2 to 3.6 nm.
