  • Nanostructured zinc aluminate pigments were synthesized using a citrate solegel method. All the samples were annealed at 600 C, 700 C, 800 C, and 1100 C for 6 h, respectively. The as-synthesized samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), UVeViseNIR spectroscopy and CIE L*a*b* color analysis. The phase purity and structural analysis of the zinc aluminates were confirmed using X-ray diffraction and Rietveld refinement. The morphological and microchemical analysis was done using FESEM, TEM and EDX. The particle size and reflectance properties are found to be sensiti...

  • Graphene-silver (G-Ag) nanocomposites were prepared using liquid phase exfoliation of graphiteflakes followed by a reduction of silver nitrate. The plasmonic characteristics of these nanocomposites are highly sensitive to the Ag concentration in thefilms. Raman spectroscopic investigations indicated that the effect of the surface-enhanced Raman scattering is present significantly in the Raman spectra of G-Ag nanocomposites. The intensity of the D, G, and 2D Raman bands is found to increase with silver con-centration. The interaction between graphene and silver nanoparticles causes the G-band to split depending on the concentration of Ag. Scanning tunneling spectroscopic investigations...

  • Role of La3þ ion substitution sites on the photoluminescence.pdf.jpg
  • Article

  • Authors: Jyothi, G.; Gopchandran, K.G. (2020)

  • The consequence of the site selective substitution of La3þ ions in modifying the local crystal structure in red emitting titanate perovskites and the resulting enhancement of the luminescence properties were investigated in two distinct series of red phosphors of Sr1-x-yLaxTiO3:yEu3þ and Sr1-x/2-yLaxTi1-x/2O3:yEu3þ. Herein, the red emission line was found sharply magnified for the substitutions at the Sr2þ sites whereas broad peaks resembling the emission from the La2O3:Eu3þ red phosphor were detected for the substitution at both Sr2þ and Ti4þ sites, in the experiment of altering substitution sites of the La3þ ions in Sr1- xTiO3:xEu3þ. The local asymmetry induced by the substitution ...

  • Article

  • Authors: Raji, R.; Gopchandran, K.G. (2017)

  • Highly crystalline ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized using a co-precipitation method. The morphology and optical properties of these nanoparticles are found to be highly sensitive to the growth parameters such as the concentration of reducing agent and annealing temperature. Indeed, the concentration of the reducing agent can alter the morphology of nanoparticles from quasi-spherical to rod-like and then to flower-like structures. Attempts were made to tune the emission wavelength over the visible region by varying the kinetics of chemical reduction and annealing. The possibility of tuning the emission in a visible range from orange to red and then to green by changing the nature of ...
