  • Thanks to unique Raman spectra of chemical substances, a growing number of applications in environmental and biomedical fields based on Raman scattering has been developed. However, the low probability of Raman scattering hindered its potential development and thus, many different techniques were developed to enhance Raman signal. A key step of surface-enhanced Raman scattering technique is to prepare active SERS substrate from noble metals. The main enhancement mechanism is electromagnetic enhancement resulted from surface plasmon resonance. The disadvantages of nanoparticles based SERS substrates include high randomness due to self - assembly process of nanoparticles. Recentl...

  • High quality, high density, and well-aligned zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorods have been synthesized on cost-effective printed circuit board (PCB) substrates via a simple, seedless, one-step, low-temperature hydrothermal method based galvanic cell structure. It was found that the outer diameters of the ZnO nanorods range from 50 nm to 400 nm. The as-grown ZnO nanorods prefer to grow along the c axis. The morphologies of the ZnO nanorods were investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The crystallinity properties were characterized by Raman spectroscopy and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy.

  • In this research, properties of ultrasonic waves transmitted in some carbon steels were investigated. Base on ultrasonic measurements for the steel samples of X40H, S45, SCM420, and SCR420, the values of ultrasonic wave velocities including longitudinal and transverse velocities were determined. These measurements also used to obtain ultrasonic attenuations of these steel samples. Based on ultrasonic velocities, the mechanical properties of these steel samples were calculated including Poisson’s Ratio υ, Young’s modulus E, and Shear modulus G. The experimental results show that these mechanical parameters were linearly depended on the carbon steel samples’ temperature.

  • The proportional relationship between the infrared (IR) transmittance of a transparent material and its IR-induced heat transfer can be explained via a simple model. The agreement between theory and the experimental work was examined by measuring the temperature rising inside a heat-insulated box with glass windows under IR irradiation, where the material of the glass windows was modified from corning glass (CG) to 9 at% Nb-doped TiO2 (TNO) fabricated by sputtering deposition. The fabricated TNO thin film was mostly transparent in visible region and had low transparency in IR region, which produced the self-cooling effect inside the insulated box. In comparison to the window glass mad...
