  • The thesis analyzed the selected editorials of commendation on cultural and sporty fields chosen from the American English newspaper, the usatoday.com, and the Vietnamese English newspaper, the vietnamnews.vn, to identify the lexical means of modality employed in the two newspapers. The study aimed at analyzing how similar and different in tendencies of using modality as well as the functions of modality employed in commendation editorials in the two newspapers. The data showed that modality was realized in the two newspapers through modal auxiliary verbs, ‗knowledge‘ verbs, certain reporting verbs, modal adjectives and adverbs, and some modal nouns.   • This research focuses on finding out what Filipino and Vietnamese working in companies often say to greet and respond in daily conversations. The framework used in this study was built mainly based on Hofstede‟s but with some adaptation; therefore, only four dimensions were applied to gain data. The four dimensions applied were power distance, gender, age, and acquaintance. Despite some minor differences, there were mostly similarities were found between answers from participants in two countries in particular situations

  • This study investigated the perceived reading strategies by grade 10 students at Lê Viết Tạo High School in replication of the study conducted by Mebratu Mulatu Bachore (2014). The population of the study comprised 180 grade ten students and three English teachers at Lê Viết Tạo High School. The data were obtained through not only students' questionaire consisting of 30 items probing three categories: Meta cognitive, cognitive and Affective/social reading strategies but also teachers’ interviews.   • Listening skills are important for face-to-face communication, meetings, conferences,telephone conversations , etc.Being able to listen well is an important part of communication for everyone, especially for students. A student with good listening comprehension skills will be able to participate more effectively in communicative situations. Out of all the different tests offering to certify the level of English, the TOEIC is the simplest and most practical in terms of its contents, its format, and the rapidity of results. .

  • The study is aimed at finding feasible ways to enhance the first year English major students'oral participation in English speaking classes at Hanoi Pedagogical University No.2-an intermediate step to improve the students' English proficiency. To gain that aim, the study investigates the causes of students' poor participation in speaking lessons and proposes three cooperative techniques including Jigsaw, Numbered heads together and Think-pair-share as the treatment. Therefore, the effectiveness of those three techniques on students' participation is the main variable under examination.
