  • This study made used of Extended Conceptual Metaphor Theory proposed by Kovecses (2020) to analyze the activation of the metaphor "HUMAN LIFEIS A DAY" in the song Cát Bụi by Trinh Cong Son. We systematically show that the metaphor follows the four-layered activation from mental spaces, frames/domains to image-schema level. The mental spaces provide rich details and experiences for the composer to conceptualize the scenes and then convey his ideology through the metaphor. The important role of context is once again reaffirmed in facilitating the metaphor which is entrenched in the human long-term memory. Last but not least, we also show the Vietnamese unique cultural aspects in the fra...

  • We have demonstrated ferroelectric-gate thin film transistors (FGTs) using solution-processed indium tin oxide (ITO) film as an oxide-semiconductor channel and Pb1.2Zr0.4Ti0.6O3 ferroelectric film as a gate insulator on a poly-crystalline 100-nm-STO/SiO2/Si substrate or a single-crystalline STO(111) wafer. The FGTs show a clear memory function with an on/off current ratio of more than 105 and a memory window of 2 V. It is interesting that even using solution-processed ITO channel, the saturated “on” current in the FGT reached as high as 4.6 mA at operation voltages of 8 V, corresponding to a field-effect mobility of 8.0 cm2/Vs, for the case of single-crystalline STO(111) wafer. The la...

  • This paper summarizes different approaches to the meaning extension of the English preposition over and proposes a multimodal approach comprising three spatial image theories and one mental space theory in reference to an image-based view. It is concluded that the author’s proposal is a combination of Deane’s 2005 multimodal spatial representations and 2017 Kövecses’s model, in which there is an emphasis that treating the spatial configurations of a spatial marker requires different frames and when the marker denotes a non-spatial sense, there exists an activation of a metaphor layered from its frame in certain context with a specific communicative purpose to the domain of which...

  • The study titled “Useful techniques in teaching vocabulary to grade 10 students” is conducted in the hope that it can help grade 10 students overcome difficulties in mastering, enriching their vocabulary and grade 10 teachers better their vocabulary teaching techniques .The researcher carried out the research using two main instruments : survey questionnaire and oral interviews. A survey was conducted with the contribution of 100 grade 10 students and 8 teachers at Hoan Kiem – Tran Phu upper secondary school in Hanoi. The major findings of the research figured out that mismatching between teaching and learning styles was the greatest problem that caused the ineffectiveness of vocabula...
