Abstract

Results of the study showed that students of 11th grade in a school in Lao Cai encountered a number of problems in reading such as the lack of language and background knowledge, low level reading skills, lack of reading resources and time for practicing. All those factors were attributed to their lack of interest in reading. Short story reading activity, after being applied, was proved to have the positive impacts on motivating students to read. The integration of reading story activities to the two English classes in the study made the majority of participants more interested in reading both inside and out of their classroom. Beside, the study also hepls students improve vocabulary and grammar.
