Be to" and "Have to" + lexical verbs and their modal meanings from functional and cognitive perspectives (A case study based on Lifelines Textbooks used in Hanoi Pedagogical University No 2)

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyze and illustrate the emergence of epistemic and deontic modal meanings in the semi auxiliaries BE TO and HAVE TO, which can be traced from Functional and Cognitive Perspectives. This study is divided into three major sections. The first one set out the rationale of the study as well as the aims, the methodology and the design of the study.
