« Path to Oku » by Matsuo Basho and poem translation style of Vinh Sinh

Abstract

Vinh Sinh remarked: "Traveling up and down and poetry can never be apart in Basho". The path up to Oku is the very lively example and proof for this comment. The sensibility of the wanderer and poet is especially expressed in his deep thinkings and feelings for the country for the people around him. Vinh Sinh's choice of Vietnamese traditional luc bat or signficant poetry type to translate from a poem into a poem is his true achievement and contribution in his style of transforming poems by Basho. His most important and significant success is to bring Basho's poems, Japanese soul and culture closer to Vietnamese readers.
